Exit the A69 at Heddon on the Wall and pick up the B6318, just before the Three Tuns public house, heading west towards Chollerford. Continue on the B6318 for seven miles; the turning to Matfen Hall is on the right.

From the A68, join the B6318 heading east at the Stagshaw roundabout, two miles north of Corbridge. Follow signs to Heddon on the Wall / Newcastle; the Matfen turning is on the left after two and a half miles.

Where can I visit whilst up North?

Matfen Hall is very close to historic Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum which brings history alive. Vindolanda is a fascinating Roman fort and civilian settlement lying just to the south of Hadrian's Wall. The Roman Army Museum, situated beside one of the best preserved sections of the Wall, offers a captivating insight into the garrisons of Hadrian's Wall. All within a short driving distance of the Hall. For more information visit:

If you want to see Newcastle, the city centre is a 13 mile drive from Matfen Hall and the infamous Metro Centre only 12 miles, with over 300 shops, the Metro Centre is Europe's largest shopping and leisure centre and has everything you could need for a perfect day out! You could then visit the controversial (but loved by me) Angel of the North just a five minute drive away..

There are other places to stay within the area, please find details below:
